Youth Director Job Description

Full Time Youth Director: Bethel CRC is a ~500 member congregation in Edgerton, MN, and is looking to hire a full time Youth Director to work with approximately 50 high school students. This individual must exhibit a genuine faith, hope, and love in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and have the passion and gifts necessary to build a strong youth program.

General Description and Purpose
          Youth Director (YD) will develop and implement a comprehensive ministry for teenagers and young adults.  The YD is primarily responsible for the day-to-day direction of Bethel Christian Reformed Church’s ministry to students in 9th through 12th grades.  Secondary target audiences will be junior high and college-age students.
 
 
Qualifications
  • Publicly demonstrates a vibrant relationship with God, professes Jesus as his/her Lord and Savior, and is a dedicated Christian focused on growing in Jesus and showing His glory through his/her ministry.
  • Demonstrates an acceptance of the Bible as the inspired Word of God; believes in and promotes the Christian Reformed Church doctrines, theology, and interpretation of the Bible. 
  • Demonstrates organizational abilities and communicates effectively with others.
  • Four-year college degree preferred in youth ministry or related field.
  • Experience working with youth.
  • Will reside in or close to Edgerton and be an active member of Bethel CRC while employed.
  • Completes and passes a background check.
 
Accountability
  • YD will work under the supervision of the Church Council and be expected to collaborate with, communicate with, and report to appointed elders, deacons, pastoral staff, and any other appointed Youth Advisory members or committees.
  • The YD will annually submit an overall ministry plan and budget of proposed expenditures for the upcoming year.
  • The YD will submit monthly ministry reports to the Elders and monthly expense reports to the Deacons.
  • The YD will meet with ministry and/or pastoral staff to coordinate activities and provide mutual encouragement.
  • The YD will engage in an annual performance review with Council.
 
Responsibilities
  • Maintain a vital, maturing, and daily personal walk with God; be an honorable role model who engages in spiritual disciplines (such as: studying the Bible, prayer, love, and servanthood).
  • Annually submit in writing to the Council a proposal for continuing education; such as conferences, workshops, and a list of reading materials consistent with ministry responsibilities and personal development. 
  • Be available to students and develop a meaningful relationship with them; provide pastoral care and encouragement on a regular basis through ministry programs, social media, attendance at their extracurricular activities, and one-on-one meetings.
  • Provide support in times of special needs as perceived or identified by volunteer staff, parents, or other ministry leaders.
  • Train, encourage, and develop a team of volunteers to assist in implementing a comprehensive youth ministry for ninth through twelfth grade students aimed at spiritual growth, leadership, worship, evangelism, and service.
  • Assist pastoral staff in the organization of pre-profession of faith classes for youth and post high school members.
  • Develop an annual schedule of events that includes mission trips, local outreach, service projects, and regular large or small group meetings.
  • Establish regular contact with other youth pastors/youth directors in the Minn-I-Kota region (both CRC and other) for mutual support and encouragement.
  • Serve as a member of the Education Committee.
  • Develop and implement a plan to equip and sustain student participation in a variety of events and activities to which youth will invite their friends and reach out to the youth in the community. Help each student find his or her place in the youth group, Bethel, and the church at large.
  • Communicate with parents via emails, occasional updates to the congregation, etc. regarding youth ministry and be available to meet with parents as needed.
  • Refer students to a professional Christian counselor as necessary and in cooperation with parents/guardians.
